figure sketch 36 w/value experiment
Live figure drawing enhanced with straight black/white/gray in photoshop in order to punch up the values. I know I'm weak in establishing good values in my drawings. In painting, I rely on color a lot and I know what I make often looks flat. So, might as well start facing it head on.

An artist whose opinion and talent I respect very much made the comment to me tonight that I commit to my lines too quickly, making the drawing too rigid. When he said that, it made me stop and take a serious look. Perhaps he's right. Am I too influenced by wood cuts, pen-ink illustrations, and comic books when I draw?
Hey artists - any suggestions on how to "loosen up" my line without losing the realistic and illustrative integrity I love so much?
